We have an exciting opportunity to join Fortescue’s Exploration Australia Critical Minerals team as a Senior Project Geologist.
Fortescue is undertaking exploration programs across Australia focused on copper, gold and other critical minerals.
Reporting to the Principal Geologist, you will work alongside experienced exploration professionals and multidisciplinary technical teams to generate exploration targets and progress projects from early-stage assessment through to drill testing. You will also generate new projects, assess third-party opportunities and provide technical and economic recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
- Compile, validate and interpret geological datasets
- Undertake regional geological reviews and project generation studies
- Generate and prioritise exploration targets using geological, geochemical and geophysical datasets
- Complete geological mapping, sampling and field investigations
- Supervise drilling contractors and undertake geological logging
- Support the planning and execution of exploration programs
- Assess third-party opportunities and provide technical and economic recommendations
- Prepare technical reports, presentations and exploration recommendations
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary technical teams to solve geological challenges
- Promote safe and environmentally responsible exploration practices.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Geology or a related Earth Science discipline
- Approximately 5-7 years’ exploration experience
- Greenfields mineral exploration experience will be highly regarded, particularly exposure to porphyry copper, IOCG, orogenic or intrusion-related gold systems
- Strong geological mapping, logging and data interpretation skills
- Ability to integrate geological, geochemical and geophysical datasets to support exploration decisions
- Strong technical writing, communication and teamwork skills
- Experience using ArcGIS, Leapfrog, ioGAS and geological database software will be advantageous
- English language proficiency will be highly regarded
- Current valid driver’s licence.
