Rio Tinto has recently announced an ambitious strategy to grow our business and decarbonise our assets. Our greenhouse gas Scope 1 & 2 emissions reduction targets are to be net zero by 2050.
RTA Pacific Operations (PacOps) Alumina refineries currently utilise coal and gas to generate steam, for use within the process of refining alumina. . To decarbonise the Gladstone refineries (Yarwun Refinery and Queensland Alumina Limited), three large ‘Tier 1’ project workstreams have been identified and the Electric Steam Generation projects are one of these Workstreams .
To help us with this challenge, we are looking for a Project Manager to lead the study, trial and full execution work of Electric Steam Generation at one of the Refineries. The project is multidiscipline brown-field construction, from Concept through to close out. You will be responsible for all aspects of Project management with key focus on satisfying stakeholder needs and expectations and ensuring that the project can be executed in a safe and timely manner.
Reporting to the Manager Electric Steam Decarbonisation you will:
- Demonstrate a visible and active commitment to HSE in design and implementation.
- Establish a project team and lead a positive team culture of safety and well-being
- Lead the project through the full life cycle, including:
- Define project objectives ensuring stakeholder requirements are properly understood
- Manage project deliverables through all stage gate approvals, including scope, schedule, budget and risks
- Manage resources to deliver project scope safely, on time and within budget
- Monitor, manage and report all relevant project performance indicators to meet business requirements
- Maintain relationships with key stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement in project delivery
- Ensure compliance with the Project Management Framework and other project governance processes,
- Lead a team of technical experts, external consultants, and a project support team (both internal and external) to deliver the Project.
What you’ll bring
- Commitment to safety and delivering projects with a focus on safety, well-being and development of the project team
- Bachelor’s Degree, technical trades qualification or substantial industry experience in a similar senior level role
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a project management or Maintenance/Operations role
- Multi discipline project management experience, with the ability to define and implement project improvement initiatives to maximise capital & schedule efficiency
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated complex problem-solving abilities to deliver solutions across the life cycle of the project
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Thorough understanding of the key risks associated with construction projects, including potential commercial and legal issues impacting on capital projects
- Project management qualification / certification
- Project management and delivery of complex brownfield processing plant projects
- Previous experience in delivery (or maintenance / operations) of boilers and/or electrical infrastructure
