ABOUT GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a Permanent full-time role being offered on a 4:3 roster, Monday-Thursday, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns.

As the Senior Project Specialist, you will manage a small team to deliver a portfolio of capital projects from Concept through to Closeout as per the South32 governance systems and processes.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Establish project teams to deliver your portfolio and assign tasks relative to the overall project plan
• Deliver a portfolio of multi-disciplined Projects as per the South32 project management standard and capital investment standards
• Routinely monitor and report on project progress to project sponsors and stakeholders
• Safely and effectively manage and direct contract staff to ensure that work you are managing is executed in a safe manner

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Visible field safety leadership and an ability to drive safety and performance excellence
• Ability to develop, coach and mentor employees to improve engagement, diversity, and capability
• Demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively
• Strong problem-solving skills, demonstrating objective and critical thinking with well-developed strategic planning skills
• The ability to manage and prioritise competing interests and the ability to work effectively across functional groups

Qualifications for this position are:

• Tertiary qualification or Trade Certificate in relevant field, or significant technical experience in similar industrial environment
