Energy Resources of Australia (ERA) operated Ranger, Australia’s longest continuous uranium mine, surrounded by, but separate from Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory. In accordance with Government legislation, all mining operations and uranium processing at Ranger ceased on 8 January 2021.
Today, ERA’s strategic priority is the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Ranger Project Area to a standard where it can be reincorporated into the surrounding Kakadu National Park if Traditional Owners and the Commonwealth Government wish.

About the role

This role is a unique opportunity for a professional who is looking to further advance their career within a unique hybrid operations and project delivery role. Reporting to the Operations & Maintenance Superintendent, you will be:
- Leading and coaching maintenance supervisors, schedulers and planners to identify and manage the asset reliability risks which can impact production, striving to maximise OSS (overall equipment effectiveness)
- Planning and executing plant and equipment performance evaluations
- Monitor production losses and high maintenance costs, and engage team to improve outcomes
- Develop and implement condition monitoring and assessment programs for all assets
- Management of all asset integrity documentation
- Development of maintenance strategies for the ERA Brine Concentrator
- Ensure the delivery of asset condition assessments
- Assessment of critical spare parts required to enable ongoing operational capability
- Formulate ongoing long term preventive maintenance plans as well as working closely with the maintenance supervisor in planning large plant outages and project works
- Developing an understanding Brine Concentrator maintenance needs and requirements and participating in continuous improvement programs with operations personnel, maintenance personnel and OEMs
- Lead the root cause analysis process for all asset integrity incidents and ensure all resulting actions are implemented
- Building relationships and liaising with the Asset Management, Maintenance, Operations and Project Engineering teams.
- Generate reports and maintaining of asset reliability registers
- Oversee the development of and implementation shutdown maintenance schedules
- Identifying hazards on site and contribute to engineering solutions make a safer workplace and providing technical support for safety investigations
What you will bring
- Experience in leading and mentoring maintenance team with a values-based approach
- A degree in Mechanical or Reliability Engineering
- 5-10 years demonstrated experience in a Mechanical/Reliability Engineering role within heavy industrial/Mining/Processing/Maintenance field
- A strong commitment to safety
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
- Materials handling experience for pumps, drives/gearboxes,
- Experience with condition monitoring processes, oil analysis, non-destructive testing and statutory requirements
- Experience using a CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management system)
- Sound understanding of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) principals
- Experience working with Brine Concentrators, falling film evaporators

Where you will be working
Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) is a publicly listed company with Rio Tinto its major shareholder. ERA has mined and produced uranium oxide from its Ranger mine in the beautiful and rugged Alligator Rivers area of the Northern Territory since 1980. The Ranger mine is located on Aboriginal land, and is surrounded by, but separate from Kakadu National Park.
Mining at Ranger ceased in November 2012 and since then, Ranger has been processing ore from stockpiles.
The role is either Darwin based on a Bus in Bus out arrangement between Ranger Mine and Darwin, or locally based residential in Jabiru. Subsidised housing arrangements for Jabiru residents will be included.
