Senior Resource Definition Geologist

Work Location: Iron Bridge - Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.

Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex. Perth

Two opportunities currently exist to join the Iron Bridge Resource Definition team as a Senior Geologist Drilling. These roles require a highly process driven person, with strong understanding of Fortescue and procedures with an aim to develop a robust framework for various teams to execute their specific scopes within.

Reporting to the site Resource Definition Superintendent, the Senior Geologists will be responsible for ensuring the safe and timely delivery of various strategic planning projects. 

 Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain a strong field presence and leadership promoting safe work practices to contracting partners and FMG staff with the support of the drill safety and the HSES teams
  • Develop, plan and manage the drilling and earthworks schedules and execution to provide timely data for model generation required by the different planning teams (2YP, 5YP and LOM)
  • Analyse and interpret geological datasets to assist in target identification, guiding the project geologists
  • Liaise with different stakeholders (resource estimation, geometallurgy, dewatering, mine planning teams, QAQC etc., site and Perth based) to ensure works are completed as efficiently as possible
  • Coordinate the activities in carrying out the daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly work plans and ensure that they are consistently aligned with meeting operational targets
  • Supervise logging, sampling and validation of RC programs.
  • Assist with geological reporting and model validation.
  • Drive ongoing operations and geological improvements and technical upskilling of geology team

 Qualifications and experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology
  • Proven experience in a leadership position
  • Experience in magnetite and Pilbara geology essential. Additional experience in different commodities and industries highly regarded
  • Knowledge of DMIRS reporting requirements highly regarded
  • Solid understanding of RC drilling, QAQC and the risks associated with earthworks and drilling activities in remote areas of the Pilbara
  • Skilled in Vulcan, ArcGIS and acQuire. Leapfrog and ioGAS is favourable
  • Experience with contractor management, project planning and execution
  • Class C manual WA driver’s licence
