Senior Resource Definition Geologist

Work Location: Iron Bridge - Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.

Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex Perth

Fortescue is seeking a Senior Geologist with excellent interpersonal, leadership and time management skills to join their newly established Resource Definition team at Iron Bridge. This permanent position requires an 8/6 roster and offers a highly competitive remuneration package with ample opportunities for career advancement.

As a Senior Geologist, the successful candidate will report to the site Resource Definition Superintendent and will be responsible for launching all Earthworks and RC Drilling programs to ensure they are carried out to a high standard, while also ensuring the safe, efficient, and accurate achievement of production targets. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, exploring, and developing the existing magnetite resource through hands-on work.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain a strong field presence and leadership promoting safe work practices to contracting partners and FMG staff with the support of the drill safety and the HSES teams
  • Assist in building and maintaining Resource Definition systems and procedures
  • Develop, plan and manage the drilling and earthworks schedules and execution in accordance with the 2YP, 5YP and LOM plans
  • Analyse and interpret geological datasets to assist in target identification
  • Coordinate the activities in carrying out the daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly work plans
  • Provide coaching and supervise logging, sampling and validation of RC programs
  • Assist with geological reporting and model validation
  • Drive ongoing operations and geological improvements and technical upskilling of the geology team

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology/Geoscience
  • Proven experience in a leadership position
  • Experience in magnetite and Pilbara geology is preferred. Additional experience in different commodities and industries highly regarded
  • Solid understanding of RC drilling, QAQC and the risks associated with earthworks and drilling activities in remote areas of the Pilbara
  • Skilled in Vulcan, ArcGIS, acQuire and MS Office
  • Experience with contractor management, project planning, scheduling and execution
  • Class C manual WA driver’s licence
