Senior Resource Development Geologist

Work Location: Newman - Fortescue’s Metallurgical Centre of Excellent is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli People.

Roster: 8:6

An excellent opportunity exists for a Resource Development Geologist to join the Metallurgy and Resource Estimation team at our Metallurgical Laboratory Facility in Newman. This will be an initial 12 month secondment, the perfect opportunity for a driven, hardworking Geologist to further develop and expand their technical skillset and get exposure to another area of our awesome business

This is a non-mine site-based role located close to the town of Newman with the workplace a short two-minute walk from a small camp.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Geological logging of samples sourced from a variety of iron ore deposits across the Pilbara
  • Creation of feed samples for metallurgical test work programs and the geological logging of various products produced from the processing of each sample through the laboratory
  • Liaise closely with onsite Supervisors, Metallurgists and Quality Assurance Officers as well as the team in Perth
  • Communicate and provide feedback to the site-based drilling teams
  • Additional project work will enable you to provide additional value to the business
  • The supervision and mentoring of Two (2) Resource Development Geologists

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • BSc majoring in Geology or Earth Sciences and experience with Diamond and RC drilling in iron ore (essential) Geological logging and validation (Essential) and a Solid understanding of QAQC processes
  • Quality systems knowledge/ computer literacy (MS Office, Vulcan, ArcGIS, acQuire)
  • Sound knowledge of minerals processing and the plant and equipment used (preferred)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of accuracy when collecting, recording, and maintaining data and relevant documentation
  • Ideally – Post Graduate experience in a supervisory capacity
