We are looking for a Senior Geologist to support the Principal Geologists to manage the ore body knowledge efforts for the studies and strategic mine planning team for Oyu Tolgoi, based in Brisbane.

This role is a great opportunity to influence all aspects of ore body knowledge drilling, manage drilling data collection, and build geological, geotechnical models and is critical to ongoing future expansions in terms of geological and resource knowledge.

The role will be instrumental in ensuring quality geological data and building geological models for downstream users that will be used for life of mine studies. The role will work closely across disciplines on design requirements, with the Principal Geologist, studies and site team in designing ore body knowledge drilling programmes, review mapping and logging data and to merge production and study models.

Reporting to the Principal Geologist and working in a challenging and exciting environmentwithin the Life of Mine Geology team, you will be:

  • Work in a safe manner and promote safety culture through company programs.
  • Generate geological models for long term planning using 3D geological modelling software (Vulcan, Leapfrog, etc.).
  • Develop drilling plans for orebody knowledge work with the principal geologist and the site geology team to define drilling priorities and develop drilling schedules.
  • Provide quality checks on core logging data and validate drilling data for modelling purposes.
  • Communicate and manage geological models, including updates with new information.
  • Interact with stakeholders; geologists, mine engineers and planners, geotechnical engineers, hydrologists etc., regarding geologic models and interpretation.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • A Degree in Geology (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • At least 5 years in underground mining environments or complex poly-metallic value chains, preferably as a Senior Geologist.
  • Experience in the design, execution, and management of diamond drilling programs.
  • Experience developing 3D geologic models.
  • Strong capability in 3D modelling software (Leapfrog, Vulcan, or equivalent) and proficiency with diamond drilling databases.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure models are communicated and integrated across the business.
  • Strong communication skills, including preparation of technical reports and presentations to peers from other mine disciplines and senior management.
  • Ability to solve and communicate technical problems with practical solutions.
  • It will also be beneficial if you have: experience in narrow-vein mining.
