Within our company wide Information Systems & Technology function, we are building an internal software development and delivery team focusing on high value and strategic products for the digital transformation of Rio Tinto. We are building this capability and capacity with the support of a strategic partnership with Endava, one of the world’s leading software engineering companies.

We are recruiting for junior, experienced and leadership roles to establish this capability for scaling as we shift our technology landscape to products and platforms. About the team

Rio Tinto has a long history of being a leader in innovation and the development and deployment of technology within the mining industry. Innovation will continue to play a critical role in improving health and safety outcomes, delivering new mines of the future and decarbonising the industry.

The Technology Development team in Group Technical – Services and Delivery works across a broad range of unique mining technologies that include machine automation projects such as the Autonomous Drilling System, real-time data platforms and 3D visualisation systems.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced software engineer to join a small team of talented developers designing innovative 3D visualisation tools used across Rio Tinto’s mine sites. Reporting to the Principal Advisor – Visualisation.

Our team strives to provide value to other divisions within Rio Tinto through innovation and leverages cutting edge technology including virtual reality tools and the latest game engine technologies in order to facilitate real-time visualisation of Rio Tinto’s vast amounts of spatial data.

About you

  • Commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Solid C++ programming skills
  • Experience working with shader languages (OpenGL/DirectX)
  • Experience in frontend UI/UX design.
  • C#/.net exposure
  • Experience working with multi-threaded
  • Strong mathematics and computational geometry skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Self-motivated, team player able to work effectively within an agile environment.
  • Experience working on multiple 3d game/graphics engines.
  • Bonus points for any experience working within the mining/resources sector.
  • Degree in computer science, software engineering or equivalent (preferred but not mandatory)

Where you will be workingThis role is based in Perth, Western Australia, out of our Central Park office, working Monday – Friday.
