Senior Specialist – Decarbonisation (Procurement)

Work Location: Fortescue Centre

  • Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.

Role overview:

Fortescue takes an industry leading position on reducing emissions by decarbonising our operations and working to deliver low carbon solutions and green energy products to the world. Fortescue’s decarbonisation strategy seeks to achieve the following targets:

  • Eliminate fossil fuel use and achieve real zero terrestrial emissions (Scope 1 and 2) across our mining operations by 2030
  • Net zero Scope 3 emissions across our value chain by 2040

As the Decarbonisation Senior Specialist, you are passionate, curious, enthusiastic, and willing to step-up to the challenge of being part of an innovative and achievement-driven organisation.

The Senior Specialist is a key contributor in cross-functional expertise, direction to meet business needs, sets the Company’s Procurement Decarbonisation strategy, and is accustomed to adapting to ambiguity and uncertainty.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the development and implementation of the long-term strategy for Procurement decarbonisation; coordinate a pipeline of activities and transition planning across the Company’s products and services procurement categories.
  • Undertake execution of bespoke market engagement, sourcing and contracting requirements and supply optimisation opportunities to deliver towards Fortescue’s decarbonisation targets.
  • Develop solid relationships with critical suppliers and influence internal stakeholders to maximize business and decarbonisation outcomes.
  • Support implementation of supplier emissions reporting approach to improve Company’s Scope 3 reporting accuracy.
  • Support delivery of training materials for Procurement function with supporting tools and processes for source to contract integration.
  • Develop and manage internal reporting routines relating to Procurement decarbonisation activities and risk management.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 7+ years’ experience in Procurement and Contract Management roles within Mining or similar industries with exposure to decarbonisation highly desirable. 
  • Ability to think strategically and support multi-functional change management processes, bringing to bear project management, problem solving and customer/supplier relationship management skills.
  • A strong mix commercial acumen with proven category, problem solving and a can-do attitude.
  • Understanding of emissions reporting and accounting. Working knowledge of climate change, greenhouse gases and related sustainability risks is beneficial.
  • Ability to communicate and influence effectively both verbally and in written form (powerpoint) with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prioritise activities across concurrent initiatives, monitor progress to milestones and deliverables and seek support as required to ensure strategic opportunities are maximised.
  • Flexibility and creativity - ability to adopt new methods to deliver outcomes and challenge existing paradigms.
  • Qualification in Supply Chain, Business or Commerce is desirable.
