The Diesel Transition Program (DTP) is at the forefront of our strategy to reduce diesel-based carbon emissions. The Global Equipment and Diesel Transition team is responsible for accelerating technical solutions to achieve Rio Tinto's ambitious emission reduction goals.

We are seeking a Senior Specialist to join our team, where you will perform key program management activities to support the successful delivery of our diesel abatement projects.

Reporting to the Strategy Manager – Diesel Transition Program, you will:   

  • Track and maintain detailed budgets, ensuring accurate financial forecasting and reporting across all projects

  • Monitor and report project timelines, identifying risks to key milestones and working with project teams to support development of mitigations, escalating as required

  • Coordinate annual planning processes, ensuring alignment with the program strategy and manage stakeholders to define cost, schedule and resourcing requirements

  • Engage with key stakeholder groups (e.g. Decarbonisation Office) to support Rio Tinto’s broader decarbonisation reporting requirements

  • Provide structured governance processes and frameworks to drive standardisation and consistent project delivery

  • Act as a key liaison between project teams and leadership, ensuring clear communication and alignment with strategic priorities

  • Provide support across the team, contributing to strategic and commercial activities as needed

  • Foster a culture of zero harm and continuous improvement

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:   

  • A commitment to ensuring the safety of yourself and your team

  • Demonstrated experience in program / project management activities including budget and schedule management and reporting

  • Proficiency in project management and reporting tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Excel and Power BI)

  • An ability to navigate ambiguity and operate effectively in a dynamic environment

  • A curious and proactive mindset with an ability to operate independently

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence across teams without direct authority

  • Experience developing and implementing structured processes and governance frameworks

  • A strong focus on innovation, problem-solving, and continuous improvement
