About the role  

The Diesel Transition Program is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies to reduce diesel-based carbon emissions across Rio Tinto’s global portfolio. The work of this team includes the acceleration of technical solutions that will deliver Rio Tinto’s ambitious emission reduction goals. From sourcing mining solutions of the future, to creating businesses with host communities, to building new supply chains around our greenfield assets, the importance of Procurement in Rio Tinto’s success has never been greater.

We are looking for a Senior Specialist to join our Global Equipment and Diesel Transition team in Perth. You’ll be part of a high performing team and responsible for maturing diesel transition assessments across the global portfolio.

Reporting to the Electrification Planning and Implementation Manager – Diesel Transition Program, you will:   

  • Embrace a growth mindset and use collaborative ways of working in multidisciplinary teams, to drive inclusivity, excellence, and build meaningful partnerships as we shape and deliver the Diesel Transition Program.

  • Lead key aspects of the Battery Electric Haul Truck program, overseeing Rio Tinto’s truck, charging systems (dynamic and static), and system requirements while driving alignment among internal and external stakeholders to achieve emission reduction goals.

  • Collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team with groups such as Group Technical and Asset Management to integrate specialised knowledge and ensure alignment with overall business objectives.

  • Engage with other technical SMEs to apply lessons learned from other projects, ensuring innovative solutions are implemented and key risks are proactively identified and addressed.

  • Lead ad-hoc projects as applicable and as identified through the Diesel Transition Portfolio.

  • Develop robust relationships with OEMs and Procurement Category relationship owners to assess options and ensure consistency of Rio Tinto requirements and messaging.

  • Actively challenge beliefs on current diesel abatement technologies and stay abreast with leading research and industry learnings.

  • Foster a culture of zero harm and continuous improvement.

  • Experience in managing contracts in relation to project delivery and a demonstrated ability to support stakeholders in achieving performance against KPI’s.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and manage potential conflict in a constructive and effective manner with proactive skills to challenge the status-quo whilst possessing strong business acumen.

  • Professional, succinct, strong and clear verbal and written communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Experience in heavy mobile equipment and familiarity with various mine operating environments.
