Operations near and far

In the Great Sandy Desert in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia, our Telfer gold-copper mine is our fly-in-fly-out operation, comprising both open pits and an underground mine. While at site Telfer offers a diverse range of recreational activities including a gym, swimming pool, driving range, movie room and refurbished communal eatery.

Who we’re looking for

We are seeking a proactive Senior Structural Engineer to join the Engineering Department at Telfer to supports Safe, Sustainable and Reliable asset performance in line with Asset Management best practice and compliant with regulations and Newcrest’s policies, procedures and standards.

The Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for establishment and safe effective management of Structural Integrity Program and supports the planning and execution requirements of work scopes, including shut planning, resourcing and execution. Directly reporting to the Superintendent - Engineering, this is a technical role with no direct reports and a focus on asset management excellence.

Other key deliverables of the role include, but not limited to:

  • Own and manage the site’s Structural Integrity Program/ and site standards and plans.
  • Manage/maintain the structural risk register - including prioritising & due dates
  • Manage any structural consultants coming to site
  • Stay current with industry standards, codes, and regulations, and ensure that projects comply with all applicable regulations
  • Communicate effectively with clients and project stakeholders to understand their needs and provide creative, cost-effective solutions
  • Provide technical guidance to project managers and assist with proposal development
  • Conduct site visits and field inspections to assess existing structures and provide recommendations for improvement

To succeed in this role, you will be a forward-looking leader with excellent work-ethics and a passion for continuous improvement. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with clients and project stakeholders. A strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team, you will also have:

  • Experience in a Mineral Processing Plant is highly desired
  • Experience in the scoping and project management of structural integrity works/programs and providing technical advice and assistance within a maintenance environment.
  • Proven frontline leadership experience within large-scale complex operations
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related field
  • High commitment to safety along with excellent decision making skills.
  • Computer literacy and understanding of SAP will be beneficial
  • Current C Class drivers’ licence

Please note: This is a permanent role that will work on a FIFO (8D/6), flying out of Perth.
