Our Integrated Operations team currently have an opportunity for an experienced Leader to join the team as Senior Supply Chain & Execution Scheduler. This critical role will lead a team of Supply Chain professionals who coordinate the movement of Rio Tinto Iron Ore, from mine through to Customer while having a direct influence on Shipping, Rail and Mine volume and product quality.

This role will be based at our State of the Art Operations Centre (near the Perth domestic Airport) and operate on 3 days on; 3 nights off / 6 days off roster.

Reporting to the Superintendent Supply Chain Execution the successful candidate will act as a Leader within the Integrated Operations Scheduling team. In addition, you will:

  • Lead, support and develop the IOS team members, particularly the Supply Chain Execution Scheduler’s (SCES)
  • Ensure continuous availability of competent SCES resources
  • Initiate and lead recruitment for forward planning and secondment opportunities across the team
  • Execute and optimise the supply chain over a window of the next 36 hours on an ongoing basis
  • Analyse the often complex, knock-on effective of deviations over a 24-hour period and direct the SCES accordingly.
  • Escalate and define optionality of supply chain constraints, impacts and opportunities as required, supported by impact assessments
  • Support the delivery of departmental continuous improvement initiatives and focuses, aligned with our values, and champion specialty project or programs of work.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex mining and/or logistics processes with an ability to identify inefficiencies, value degradation and bottlenecks
  • Experience leading a Mine, Rail, Port team
  • Ready to learn and grow a solid team
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for improvement and manage through to completion
  • Understanding of mining operations and mine scheduling processes and experience in mine planning/scheduling
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate amongst large stakeholder networks
  • ability to communicate complex problems and distil large amounts of data
  • Proven ability in change management

It would also be beneficial if you have

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in either Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths or Commerce disciplines are preferred
  • Experience leading a team with ability to develop and coach team members
  • Familiarisation with IOS Scheduling tools such as HOS, M2S
  • Familiarisation with Power BI
  • Familiarisation with rail networks
  • Project management skills

Where you’ll be working

Our state-of-the-art Operations Centre (OC) located near the Perth domestic airport, is a key component of our Mine of the Future™ vision. The OC control room operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to coordinate our integrated network of mines, rail, power, and ports. It enables all our mines, ports, and rail systems to be operated from a single location, optimising site activities from 1,500km away.
