About the role
Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Mine Technical Services team is seeking a Senior Surveyor who is motivated by safety and can demonstrate the ability to lead a small site-based team including contracting partners.
This is a true career development opportunity for a mining industry experienced surveyor who can demonstrate proven capability across safety, leadership, technical aptitude, budgeting, capital expenditure approvals, planning and operational skills.
Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Technical Services, key responsibilities will be to:
- Ensure all Rio Tinto Health and Safety standards, policies and procedures are adhered to
- Drive a positive safety culture through proactive, visible and authentic safety leadership
- Lead, organise, develop and motivate a small team of mine surveyors
- Liaise with and support the planner and scheduler to achieve programs of work
- Liaise and interact with the geology teams to ensure the drill programs are maintained
- Complete timely system reporting on environmental and data compliance
This permanent position will be offered on a fly in, fly out basis from Perth (8 days on site, 6 days off) supporting Rio’s Marandoo and Greater Tom Price mining operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
About you
To be considered suitable for this position you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Surveying or equivalent
- Grade 2 Mine Surveyors Authorisation Certificate
- Demonstrated site based open pit mining experience
- Strong commitment to safety and quality
- A strong understanding of spatial data from both an operational and technical perspective
- Good organisational and time management skills
The successful applicant will have proven ability to plan and clearly communicate with individuals across all levels and disciplines in scope of work delivery and prior technical team leadership experience will be well regarded.
