Macmahon has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mine Surveyor to support Macmahon’s QLD mining contracts. Reporting to the Civil East Area Manager, this position will be based in the Brisbane office and suit a Senior Surveyor who enjoys being hands-on in the field with very regular travel to sites.

The role

  • Primary accountability is to provide survey set out, pickup, reconciliation and reporting to serve Macmahon’s mining contracts
  • Effective collaboration with client survey teams and production crews
  • Weekly and monthly survey volumes/calculations for topsoil removal, waste excavation, mining and rehandle quantities
  • Stake out of excavation, dump limits and maintenance of machine guidance system
  • Ensure survey of coal interfaces is correctly picked up to ensure strip reconciliations are reliable and meaningful
  • In conjunction with the Senior Geologist, provision of monthly reconciliations
  • Daily updates of waste and movements 
  • Comply with the site systems of progress recording, site diaries and photographic recording
  • Provision of actual to design compliance plans
  • Provision of strip/seam reconciliations and calculation of contract KPI’s
  • Calculation of ROM Factor (density) and interim weekly truck load volumes (including rise/run metrics)
  • Dedication to project improvement initiatives


Qualifications and attributes 

  • Bachelor of Surveying or similar
  • 5+ years mining industry experience 
  • Experience in utilising and maintaining survey hardware (ie GPS, Total Station and scanner technology)
  • Experience in 3D CAD software such as Vulcan and Deswik essential
  • Excellent data management control and post-processing of pick up data
  • Ability to clearly set out and articulate survey calculations and adjustments
  • Good analytical and problem solving ability
  • Demonstrated reporting capabilities  
  • Experience in complying with the Statutory Mining and HSEQ requirements
  • Certificate of Competency for Frontline Operational Supervisor of OHS and Mine Environment from DEMR
  • Experience in managing and coordinating teams
  • Experience in setting tasks, resources and schedules to meet work plan
