This role is critical to supporting Fortescue’s decarbonisation journey and major project delivery by ensuring strong financial discipline, cost visibility, and control across a diverse portfolio of initiatives. These include projects that enable the transition to green energy, low-carbon operations, and the development of large-scale infrastructure across the business.
We are seeking both experienced Cost Controllers and Senior Cost Controllers to contribute across this portfolio. These roles will be responsible for implementing and enhancing cost management systems and processes, building cost control capability, and providing accurate budgeting, forecasting, and cost reporting. This ensures effective financial oversight and supports the successful delivery of both sustainability-focused initiatives and Fortescue’s broader major projects portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain cost management systems, processes, and procedures to support consistent project cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis
- Manage project cost and progress reporting, ensuring accurate, timely insights and identification of actions to maintain baseline targets
- Apply and maintain the project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to ensure alignment across systems, reporting, and cost tracking
- Deliver monthly cost reporting, variance analysis, and performance insights using earned value management (EVM) techniques
- Manage Value of Work Done (VOWD), commitments, resource forecasting, and Estimate at Completion (EAC) / Estimate to Complete (ETC) processes
- Oversee work packages to ensure cost compliance with the Project Controls Plan and validate contractor progress and invoicing
- Review contractor claims, purchase orders, and payment certificates, ensuring alignment with contracts and project performance
- Manage accruals, cost allocations, and financial close processes, ensuring accurate recording against cost centres and WBS
- Ensure effective change management processes (PCN) are applied and reflected in cost forecasts and reporting
- Monitor and audit cost systems and SAP data, supporting procurement activities and mentoring junior cost controllers to ensure accuracy and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 2 yrs experience in a similar role, experience within the mining industry is desirable.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SAP, experience with Serko or Workforce (or similar travel management system) is desirable
- Demonstrated ability to be organised, self-driven and motivated and solutions-focused
- Excellent time management skills, strong attention to detail, with the ability to priorities work, managing competing deadlines to ensure tasks are completed with both accuracy and efficiency
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills
- A clear understanding of costing methodologies and budget control
- Demonstrated knowledge of MS Excel and SAP
- Knowledge in Acquire, Ariba and Visualisation tools like Tableau is highly desirable
- Able to engage with end users at all levels of the organisation.
