Yancoal Australia is Australia’s largest pure play coal producer. It boasts three tier one thermal coal mines in New South Wales together with interests in three other metallurgical and thermal coal mines located in New South Wales and Queensland.  Yancoal Australia also manages five other Australian coal mines on behalf of related parties. Yancoal currently employs over 4,000 people across its operations. Our Ashton Coal Operations include an underground mine and coal handling and preparation plant, located in Camberwell.  The site operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Shift Engineer to join our team on a permanent basis. The Shift Engineer will support our weekend night shift crew, working Friday through Sunday each week.

Reporting to the shift Undermanager and indirectly to the Engineering Manager, the successful applicant will be committed to the proactive maintenance of our machinery with a proven safety focus.

The successful applicant will be an experienced supervisor with extensive experience on Joy Mining Machinery, JUG diesels and ACE conveyor belt systems. Being a motivated leader with a commitment to safety will be essential for this position.

Skills and Experience

To be successful you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Electrical or Mechanical Trade qualified
  • Frontline Leadership (desired)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Shift Engineer or similar role
  • SAP experience (desirable)
  • Highly developed communication skills
  • Superior problem solving skills and decision making skills
  • Sound knowledge in Coal Mining Work Health & Safety legislation
