Owned and Operated by Yancoal Australia, Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is one of the largest open pit operations in the area. Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both draglines and load haul systems as the current and preferred mining method. Our site operates continuously 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has a long and proud history, employing approximately 1350 people from local and surrounding communities, who are our most valuable asset. 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Yancoal at Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) are seeking qualified Shotfirers with extensive hands-on experience to join our blast crew.  Reporting to the Mining Supervisor - Blasting you will be responsible for the safe and productive conduct of blasting operations on your crew. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in open pit blasting operations and have the ability to meet the safe and productive standards expected by Yancoal.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in the role you will also display the following skills and attributes: •    A current NSW Security Clearance; •    A current NSW Blasting Explosives Users Licence; •    Experience in blasting operations using electronic initiation systems in an open pit coal mine environment;  •    A proven track record with regard safe and productive operating practices; •    Ability to meet the requirements of this role with regard to working outside;  •    A positive and proactive attitude; •    A current NSW Manual Driver’s license.
