About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated team member to come join our Newman Operations Drill & Blast Team. If you are committed to Safety, have a positive & supportive can do attitude that will contribute to our great Team culture, then we want to hear from you! As part of the integrated Drill & Blast Crew, your role would also include being part of the open pit charging and blasting services across Newman, which would include but not limited to a large variety of physical tasks from prepping, backfilling, dewatering, loading, and stemming drill holes in preparation to detonate explosives that will support mining activity on-site.

Reporting to the Drill & Blast Supervisor within the Mining Production team your duties would include:

  • Shotfiring duties including magazine management, managing the loading, tying and firing of blasts, following drill and blast design
  • Compliance with statutory explosives and mining regulations
  • A strong commitment to ensuring a safe and environmentally healthy workplace
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable interaction with all stakeholders
  • Safe behaviours and adhere to the BHP charter values
  • Compliance with BHP mine safety procedures, SWI’s, SOP’s and field leadership

About you

As a successful candidate, you will possess the following:

  • Hold WA Shot Firer’s Licence
  • Electronic detonator experience preferred 
  • Hold the relevant tickets and licenses that are applicable to your skillset; 
  • A commitment to safety, quality and attention to detail and procedure;  
  • The ability to work to deadlines and remain calm under pressure; 
  • A strong desire to learn and a high level of enthusiasm to develop a range of new skills;  
  • A teamwork mentality to achieve results
  • Hold a Dangerous Goods Security Card
  • Hold a full class C drivers licence.
