We are looking for a Shutdown Coordinator to plan and execute scheduled shutdowns for our fixed plants across three mine sites; East Weipa, Andoom & Amrun. The role will be based from Amrun.

Rio Tinto Weipa is located 900km north-west of Cairns on the Gulf of Carpentaria and has been operating for over 50 years. Over the years, it has developed into a vibrant and diverse cultural hub of the Western Cape. The Amrun Mine Site is located 40 kilometers south west of Weipa with a life expectancy of 40 plus years to expand our bauxite operations and continue production from one of the world’s premier bauxite deposits. This expansion will strengthen the economy and provide exciting opportunities for the people of Cape York and Queensland for future generations.

This role is a great opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to take the next step in their career working for a global mining company. Reporting to the Fixed Plant Shutdown Supervisor, you will be: 

  • Planning, scheduling & Coordinating Minor and Major Shutdowns 
  • Leading continuous improvement in consultation with other planning personnel, by measuring planning KPI’s, shutdown performance and then actioning issues/opportunities 
  • Developing Gantt charts and other planning tools to schedule work for shutdowns 
  • Coordinating a combined team of employees and contractors to safely execute the shut activities within the quality, cost and schedule parameters 
  • Working within the Shutdown Management Process 

What you’ll bring

  • Trade/Engineering background in either Electrical or Mechanical
  • SAP Experience
  • Strong communications skills along with the ability to work in a team environment
  • A strong commitment toward safety
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Project
  • C Class Manual Drivers Licence
  • Previous Leadership experience
  • Maintenance background specific to Fixed Plant

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Experience on a variety of fixed plant machinery
  • Previous experience within a similar planning or shutdown management role

Where you will be working

Our Weipa Operations includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, ship loaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals. Located on the Western Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, each year the operation produces more than 35 million tonnes of bauxite.

Our operations are supported by a 1,900-strong workforce—including 26 per cent who are women and 25 per cent Indigenous employees. Activities include mine operations, maintenance, asset management, ports, cultural heritage management, and processing facility management.

The development of our new mine, Amrun, which was completed in 2018, will extend the life of our Weipa bauxite operations by decades to come and significantly build on our 55-year history on the Western Cape.
