Shutdown Safety Specialist

Work Location: Iron Bridge - Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people

Roster: 8D/6R – FIFO ex Perth or Wednesday to Wednesday 

As part of the Iron Bridge HSES team, this role will be responsible for supporting the OPF Shutdown and Maintenance Teams in the safe execution of shutdown activities.

Key to the success of this role will be the ability to develop good interpersonal relationships with leaders and vendor partners to ensure adequate planning, assessment and development of suitable plans.

Key responsibilities include:

• Participate in planning, consultation and development of Shutdown Safety Management Plans
• Engage with leaders and frontline workers to provide advice on achieving the objectives and execution of Shutdown Safety Management Plan
• Provide health and safety support to Iron Bridge Shutdown and Maintenance Teams
• Ensure leaders and team members are provided with coaching and mentoring to achieve confidence and competence in safety compliance, assurance activities and are proactive in identifying and managing risks
• Provide assistance, coaching and guidance in the investigation of incidents
• Participate in the control of identified hazards where appropriate
• Participate in safety inspection and assurance processes, inclusive of internal auditing and contractor audits
• Active involvement in the Fortescue contractor management process such as mobilisation activities including risk assessment workshops, pre-mobilisation and documentation scope reviews
• Facilitation of risk assessment workshops 
• Verification of controls and exposures in the field, identifying opportunities for improvement and escalation of gaps
• Assist in the preparation and presentation of health and safety initiatives and statistic reviews and reporting
• Provide administration activities and support for Fortescue’s health and safety management systems and procedures and programs

Qualifications and Experience:

• Extensive experience demonstrated in the resources industry is essential, with a strong preference for maintenance experience
• Tertiary Occupational Health & Safety qualifications – Diploma or Certificate IV WHS, Investigation and Auditing
• Demonstrated experience in health and safety risk management frameworks
• Demonstrated high motivation and output under minimal supervision
• Experience in procedure development and safety management improvements
• Current "C" Class Western Australian Drivers Licence or equivalent
• Strong ability to advise and source information on Work Health and Safety Act and Regulations and relevant codes of practice (Desirable)
• Experience in ICAM investigations (Desirable)
• Experience in data analysis, trending & reporting (Desirable)
• Moderate to advance skills in Microsoft Office suite and electronic systems (Desirable)
