We are seeking an engaging and safety-focused Supervisor Plant Shutdown to join our Fixed Plant Shutdown team at Gove Operations to ensure the reliability and sustainability of Fixed Plant assets across our Operation.
You will be leading Contractor Management and Shutdown activities regarding our contractor vendor partners working across a broad range of assets, making this role both challenging and interesting.
You'll be part of a friendly team, supported by your leader to grow and achieve your own personal goals as well as the goals of the team.
Reporting to the Superintendent Shutdowns and working in a challenging and exciting environment within the Shutdowns team, you will:
Foster a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with legislation, statutory obligations, and Rio Tinto’s Shutdown Procedure.
Work closely with stakeholders, functions, and contractor representatives to align shutdown activities with operational goals.
Develop, implement, and manage detailed shutdown maintenance plans, ensuring efficient execution while minimising costs and environmental impact.
Lead, coach, and develop Fixed Plant Shutdown personnel, defining staffing needs and ensuring continuous training and growth.
Oversee work order quality, daily work plans, scheduling, and productivity, ensuring alignment with operational priorities.
Engage, monitor, and manage contractor performance, ensuring adherence to governance programs, quality standards, and safety compliance.
Provide guidance on SAP, Critical Orders, Warranty, and Work Management systems while offering technical oversight on maintenance activities.
Manage safety investigations, implement corrective actions, and drive improvements in shutdown processes and contractor engagement.
What you’ll bring
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Previous understanding of mining operations, shutdown planning, heavy equipment and fixed plant management to effectively be able to make safe and efficient decisions
Strong knowledge of mine safety regulations, risk assessments, permits to work, and emergency response planning.
Expertise in scheduling, logistics, budgeting, and documentation for shutdown projects.
Experience in managing teams, effective communication, conflict resolution, and ensuring timely shutdown completion.

Where you’ll be workingOur Gove Operations have been supplying the global aluminium industry with world-class bauxite for more than 40 years. Located in Australia’s Northern Territory, each year the operation produces approximately 12 million tonnes of bauxite.
With a workforce of 460 people, daily activities include mine operations, maintenance, asset management, shutdown planning and execution, export operations, cultural heritage management, and closure activities following our decision to close the site’s alumina refinery and associated Residue Disposal Area in 2017.
We expect our bauxite mining operations on the Gove Peninsula will cease in 2030 and we are undertaking significant work to support closure of the operation. We also recognise our operations take place on Indigenous-owned land, and we are committed to working together to achieve a positive future for Nhulunbuy and the Gove Peninsula post-mining.
