Signal Engineer

Work Location: Hedland Operations. Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.

Roster: 4/3 FIFO ex Perth Or Port Hedland Residential

As a Signalling Engineer, your role is to provide support and technical guidance to Hedland Operations, by undertaking specific Signalling work desired outcomes into a detailed plan that can be implemented by a project team through performing engineering work in the specialist area of Signalling against standard techniques. Key to this role will be the ability to oversee and drive the progress of Signalling Strategies across Hedland Operations

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyse/review technical documentation and inputs including design drawings, specifications, operational rules, manuals, existing hazards.
  • Write/review feasibility studies, ICDs, Requirement apportionment and test plans/procedures.
  • Review/Support System Architecture Definition and interface design between systems (conceptual and detailed)
  • Provide technical support for engineering design
  • Liaise between the engineering team and client technical stakeholders
  • Report progress against schedule, highlighting key issues and risks
  • Focus on safety.
  • Project Management: Schedule and budget
  • Collaborating with contracting rail design disciplines
  • Asset management for Signal and System assets (develop maintenance plan and strategy)
  • Improve reliability of the assets to reduce delay 
  • ITCS longevity approach to ensure the reliability of the system
  • General engineering support for the wider rail team. 
  • Study and interpret various Australian Rail Operator (ARO) standards.
  • Provide design support during factory acceptance testing.
  • Participate in signalling system commissioning and provide design support.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering specialising in either electronics, signalling, or computer systems
  • Proven knowledge and experience in the areas of process plants automation, SCADA, PLCs programming, alarm, and monitoring systems for railway applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in design, system interface, installation, and project delivery.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills including ability to interface with suppliers, customers, partners, and internal stakeholders.
