Our Operations

One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam, is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. About the Role

Reporting directly to the General Manager Surface Execution you will become a key member of the Leadership Team (MLT), managing the ongoing operation, improvement and optimisation of the Smelter, the largest in Australia and a global premier hot metals facility.

This is an Olympic Dam based position on a 5/2 (flex) basis with FIFO from Adelaide or residential options available.

In this role you will:

• Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader, engaging, developing and coaching your team
• Own the material Risk Profile for the Smelter and verify material risk critical controls are appropriately designed, deployed and effective
• Deep foundational and influential leadership of teams where you drive change and create a positive high-performance, safe-to-speak culture
• Drive the consistent expectations, understanding and application of Smelter processes to enable compliance
• Identify, build and develop Smelter talent and capability.
• Foster positive relationships through effective communication and open consultation with a wide group of stakeholders internal and external to BHP
• Monitoring and controlling costs associated with Capital and Operating budgets
• Managing your team to apply the BHP Charter Values, global level policies and statutory obligations whilst maintaining an overriding commitment to Health, Safety & Environment
• Lead consistently against the Olympic Dam core safety behaviours
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for a Major Hazard Facility (MHF)
• Meet Safety Case requirements

About You

• Relevant trade or tertiary qualifications supporting this leadership role

• Extensive experience in smelter operations

• Background in mechanical trade or engineering is advantageous, though not essential

• Exceptional communication and the ability to engage and influence across a multitude of levels .

• An agile thinker with the ability to collaborate with others to achieve results in a fast-paced environment

• Experience implementing continuous improvement strategies with a focus on safety, culture, productivity, and cost outcomes

• Demonstrated technical and commercial acumen with advanced problem-solving skills

• High level communication and influencing skills, including the ability to produce quality, concise reports and presentations to senior executives

• Deep foundational leadership where you effectively manage and engage with a diverse work group, support and promote a culture where it is Safe to Speak Up

• Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in ‘Safety Leadership’
