FFI is committed to ending climate change and is building a global renewable energy business, while decarbonising existing operations.  To successfully develop its renewable energy projects globally, FFI must meet international standards relating to the identification and management of the risks and opportunities for local communities through the completion of social performance studies and management strategies. 

Reporting into the Social Performance and Communities Lead – East Australia and New Zealand, you will be accountable for supporting the social performance studies required to meet international standards and good practice guidance. In addition, you will work closely with the FFI Approvals and Environment team to ensure the social performance requirements for project approvals pathways in multiple international jurisdictions are met.

You will develop and implement stakeholder engagement plans with a focus on local communities and traditional owners. You will interface with FFI in-country teams and external consultants to manage the social performance scopes of work, including budgets and schedules.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Build collaborative relationships with key external stakeholders and, in doing so, develop innovative strategies to partner with community on shared benefits
  • Integrate with project teams to identify social risks and deliver against social performance requirements as outlined in project guidelines
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to develop management measures to address social impacts, and ensure implementation of these measures
  • Ensure alignment with FFI Global SP best practices and international standards
  • Support the development of Social Performance scopes of work, such as assessing social risks, writing scopes, reviewing proposals, and managing the delivery of the consultants work according to budget, schedule, and desired outcomes
  • Understand community development, social impact and human rights
  • Mentor, train and develop the capacity of local teams on social performance

Qualifications and skill required

  • Degree in relevant social science field, environment, international relations, and/or community development.
  • 5 – 10 years’ experience with strong communities and social performance experience.
  • Knowledge of social impact management and mitigation methodologies, relevant to energy generation, linear infrastructure, port and industrial processes, or similar.
  • Experience in partnering with community to deliver shared benefits
  • Experienced in driving local content initiatives to maximise job and procurement opportunities for local and indigenous people and businesses
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, which deliver agreements and approvals within communities.
  • Relevant international experience and proven ability to operate in key countries of interest (particularly Africa and the Asia Pacific).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient communication and written skills.  
  • Extremely well developed analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of passion for renewable energy and community development
  • Proven ability for credible and authentic engagement with strong interpersonal skills
  • High levels of self-motivation
  • Ability to be agile and resilient when managing diverse workloads with multiple priorities, and delivering work to a high quality and on time
  • Candidates must be able to bring a flexible mindset, challenge traditional thinking, and be prepared to work outside of their comfort zone.
