The opportunity 

We are seeking a Sourcing Specialist to lead procurement at Boyne Smelter Limited (BSL) and deliver commercial strategies and sourcing projects for our Gladstone operations. This role involves close collaboration with key project stakeholders in Gladstone, coordination with our PacOps sites across the east coast of Australia, and engagement with Rio Tinto Procurement and corporate functions. This is an exciting, permanent opportunity within a flexible workplace environment with the option to work a 9-day fortnight.

What the role entails 

This role is a great opportunity for an experienced Sourcing Specialist who has effective stakeholder engagement and change management skills, as well as a good commercial awareness with a background in site and/or project procurement.  

As the Sourcing Specialist you will work collaboratively with the Gladstone team providing support with the contracts, procurement and supply chain processes, through to contract execution, delivery and close out. 

In this role you will: 

  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of procurement professionals.

  • Ensure all activities comply with Contracts & Procurement policies and procedures, maintaining governance.

  • Develop and execute commercial strategies, tender packages, and award recommendations.

  • Engage stakeholders, both internal and external, to successfully deliver the procurement portfolio.

  • Ensure projects are delivered using the Ariba platform, meeting Rio Tinto’s compliance requirements.

  • Foster trust through open, transparent relationships and effective supplier management.

  • Collaborate with project leads, engineers and other professionals.

  • Work with the Contractor Management team to ensure smooth onboarding and supplier compliance.

  • Identify and implement continuous improvements in policies, procedures, and best practices.

About YouTo be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A degree in Business, Law, Engineering (or related discipline) is preferred, but not essential 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in contracts negotiation and formation, tender and award phases demonstrated through past experiences in related sourcing roles. 

  • Strong influencing, stakeholder engagement and change management capabilities. 

  • Experience in developing commercial strategies, business recommendations and be able to lead supplier negotiations. 

  • Experience in using Ariba S2C module, SAP and MCi Track is preferred (but not essential)
