What you'll be doing

Throughout the program, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Produce high quality plans used throughout the mine
  • Sit in on interdepartmental meetings to understand the role surveyors play in the wider mining operation
  • Undertake mining surveys in and around mining operations
  • Get hands on with modern surveying equipment
  • Participate in a team that embraces collaboration and an inclusive culture

What you'll bring to the table

You will need to be in your final year of a surveying degree or diploma, set to graduate by December 2021, and have the right to live and work in Australia. You will be willing to complete a medical assessment and be available to commence work in February 2022. 

To be successful in this role, you'll need to meet the following selection criteria:

  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills and knowledge
  • Demonstrated interest/passion in surveying and problem solving
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong mathematical and spatial awareness
  • A current driver’s licence (provisional licence accepted)
  • Access to reliable transport

About Underground Coal Surveying

Surveying in an underground coal mine involves the use of a surveying total station to accurately measure angles and distances. These measurements are then used to calculate coordinates as part of a surveying network used to provide guidance and direction for mining. Surveyors also maintain a series of plans used through the mine.

Location

This position will be based at one of our two underground mines, Dendrobium or Appin mine, which are located in the southern coalfields of New South Wales, near the coastal city of Wollongong and approximately 75 kilometres south and southwest of Sydney.
