Specialist Algorithm Engineer

Work Location: Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday to Friday

Role overview:

The Algorithm Engineer, Specialist will work alongside optimisation and algorithm engineers to develop novel and efficient algorithms that target specific business value, intended for deployment in one of our Autonomy Engineering products. As a part of the research and development team you will contribute toward the development of intellectual property and work toward strategic opportunities for the products.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Work with Business Stakeholders, Product Owners and team to develop succinct problem statements.
  • Collaborate with team in the development of novel optimisation algorithms that address problem statements.
  • Implement and maintain prototype algorithms in Python, including unit tests.
  • Extend discrete event simulation as required, with SimPy objects or other C++ libraries.
  • Participate in the evaluation of patents and contribute to the generation of potentially patentable intellectual property.
  • Prepare handover documentation to enable successful implementation by the product development team.

Education and Experience: (max 6 bullet points)

  • Tertiary qualification in Mathematics, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related subject area OR equivalent level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training, or professional accreditation
  • Specialisation in an area of mathematics and algorithm development.
  • Demonstrated coding skills and understanding of the software engineering fundamentals such as object oriented design and data structures. Python preferred.
  • Proficient in mathematical modeling based on business problems.
  • A willingness to experiment rapidly, master the detail and bring tasks to completion.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
