SPECIALIST – AUTOMATION TECHNOLOGY

Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.
Employees have access to the area’s wide range of amenities, including a prominent health sector with a modern well-equipped regional hospital, excellent educational facilities, shopping, large selection of sport and recreation options, transport and other services such as childcare.
Who we’re looking for
Reporting to the Superintendent, the Specialist – Automation Technology will be responsible for the coordination and execution of technology projects to add value through safety and process improvement.
You will be responsible for providing assistance to operations over technology improvements with equipment or processes. In addition, a subject matter expert at previous projects assisting after handover with new applications and continuous improvements.
The Specialist – Automation Technology is responsible for the project management support and delivery of technology capital projects through till completion via the following sequence:
- Provide project management support and delivery, working with the Technology PM team to implement the project lifecycle process.
- Initiation – feasibility study, scoping, business justification, capital request
- Planning – project charter/execution plan.
- Execution – monitoring progress, deliverables, and expenditure against plan.
- Monitoring – tracking KPIs, continuous improvements after rollout.
- Closeout – change management, operations handover, closeout findings report.
Additional key responsibilities include:
- Identify opportunities that innovative technology can potentially assist with current applications within mining.
- Deliver high quality projects that aim to remove personnel from hazards, reduce exposure or improve performance and production, through new or unique technologies and improved automation capability.
- Maintain high availability of autonomous technologies applied across the production mining footprint, under the jurisdiction of the department.
- Continue to improve autonomous operations by driving step-change initiatives with OEMs and respective autonomous systems.
- Networking with different industries and clients to innovate new projects/trials to put Newmont at the forefront of mining technology.
- Capture and track project data and perform performance analysis for verification and validation to make data-based, business decisions.
- Identify and develop long-term, high-level team aspirational goals and breaking these down into individual project roadmaps as to identify critical path items and plan priority resources to achieve our vision of a fully autonomous level with the production throughput capacity seen with manual operations
The ideal candidate will have the ability to integrate with all departments to identify current high-risk tasks with major hazard exposure with opportunities for improvement. Additionally, consult with key stakeholders to understand current problems to design & develop the best solution to add value and to effectively handover after project closeout.
You will also possess the following:
- Mining Experience – Highly regarded
- Project Management Experience – Essential
- Project Management Qualification - Highly regarded
- Mechatronics / Electrical/ Computer Science and/or Mining Engineering Degree – Essential
