About the role
We are seeking an analytical, critical thinking Specialist Business Risk to join our Program Management team supporting the Rail business units.
Reporting to the Manager Program Management you will be responsible for integrating risk into the Rail business units to inform management decisions, as well as supporting risk owners to maintain currency and quality oof risk information. This role is a great opportunity to partner with the business (Operations and Functions) to apply a risk-based approach to decision analysis and core business processes.
Key responsibilities of the role will include:
- Engage with leaders to integrate risk into operational decision-making and core business processes including investment in projects, multi-year planning and assurance activities
- Manage agreed and regular risk activities for Rail, including but not limited to the maintenance of the divisional risk register and associated risk reduction actions plans, annual critical risk assessment (CRA) and Asset Integrity Assessments (AIA)
- Scheduling and coordinating regular reviews of risk information, including controls assurance and effectiveness
- Facilitate business risk assessments with risk owners and operational teams
- Develop and leverage strong working relationships with key internal and external customers to drive continuous improvement
- Supporting Risk Business Partners to develop risk–informed assurance plans and activities
- Providing timely risk reporting (including control effectiveness and action status) to local leadership team and relevant management forums
- Govern and provide technical risk support for core business functions and systems
- Nomination of risk, action, and control owners to complete relevant risk management training
What you’ll bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- Experience in a risk management role and / or a bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Engineering or related discipline will be beneficial
- Working knowledge of ISO 31000 Risk Management Principles and Guidelines
- Experience in Lean or Six Sigma will be beneficial
- Highly developed communication skills and the ability to influence and negotiate with a high level of initiative
- Demonstrable critical thinking and problem-solving skills coupled with a high level of organisation and attention to detail
- Experience in controls assurance and conducting risk and control assessments
- An aptitude for continuous improvement
- Experience in internal or external risk audit would be seen as highly advantageous

Where you will be working
Rio Tinto’s Central Park office is the normal place of work. Visiting our three operations helps establish a working knowledge of the business and its uniqueness, as well as confirm information related to risk management and for risk audit and assurance purposes.
This role is Perth based, with opportunities to undertake site visits as required to fulfill the role.
