About the role

The Specialist Capability Design of Capability Development provides strategic guidance and support to the implementation of learning solutions. This role manages relationships with team members, external suppliers and applies quality assurance to existing learning assets with seamless integration into the LMS.
This role will report to the Principal Advisor, Governance and Systems and the key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Ensure governance and compliance across all training activities, adhering to policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Design and deliver innovative learning solutions and frameworks that align with Rio Tinto Learning Standards and industry best practices, enabling a transformative shift in learning culture.
  • Partner with business leaders and stakeholders to co-create impactful development experiences that build capability and support strategic objectives.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring that develop skills and foster a growth mindset while offering operational and technical guidance.
  • Oversee the IOCD Connect portal, Design Technology Outlook mailbox, Microsoft Planner, and SharePoint sites, ensuring efficient management and administration of software licenses and subscriptions.
  • Manage design-related chargeback processes, ensuring accurate allocation to designated cost centers to support financial transparency and effective resource management.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support collaboration and alignment.
  • Lead the delivery and implementation of key capability development projects aligned with business priorities.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will:
  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualification is desirable, along with a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
  • Industry Expertise: Demonstrated understanding of current and emerging trends, innovations, and best practices in learning and capability development.
  • Change Leadership: Proven ability to lead through transformation, drive adoption of new initiatives, and effectively manage resistance to change.
  • Capability Development: Deep expertise in organisational development, learning product design, and agile project management, with a focus on scalable and sustainable solutions.
  • Strategic Alignment: Ability to translate strategic goals into high-impact learning experiences that support business outcomes.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences and influence effectively.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build trust, collaborate across functions, and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Project Delivery: Demonstrated project management capability, with a track record of successfully delivering or supporting complex initiatives.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to develop practical solutions to complex challenges.
  • Digital Literacy: Experience in leveraging digital tools and platforms to design and deliver innovative, engaging learning solutions.

Where you’ll be working
This role will be Perth based in our Central Park head office with flexible working arrangements on offer.
