About the role

Our Rail Logistics and Optimisation (RL&O) team at Rio Tinto are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Specialist Change Management to join a small yet high performing team responsible for the delivery of RL&O improvement projects. This is an excellent opportunity for learning and career development in a role that offers constant challenge and innovation.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Rail Logistics and Optimisation Projects, you will be based out of our state of the art, Perth Operations Centre and responsible for :

  • Conducting and supporting a range of internal and external Rail business improvement projects
  • Involvement in key business transformation projects
  • Supporting the identification, development and delivery for growth opportunities for RL&O
  • Reviewing and monitoring business performance/trends and provide recommendations for business improvement
  • Supporting project initiatives with business justification, SOW and CEA development
  • Change Management relating to risk assessments and stake holder engagement for projects
  • Developing and update of operational procedures

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will pride yourself on being a subject matter expert in Rail Operations. You will also have the ability and exposure to:

  • Working effectively with minimal supervision
  • Have rail operations experience
  • Ability to influence team & build positive working relationships
  • Embrace challenge and change and a passion for innovating thinking
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong safety leadership
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the Western Australian Iron Ore business or similar industry

It would also be highly desirable if you hold the following:

  • Diploma in Project Management with minimum 1 year experience delivering improvement projects
  • Exposure to Train Control operations and rail safe working would be highly regarded
  • Train Control experience – highly regarded
  • Financial analysis experience would be highly regarded
  • Previous experience in building or working closely with data management systems

Where you will be working

Our state-of-the-art Operations Centre (OC) is located near the Perth domestic airport. The control room operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to coordinate our integrated network of mines, rail, power and ports.

We operate 200 locomotives on more than 1,700 kilometres of track in the Pilbara, transporting ore from 16 mines to four port terminals. The average return distance of these trains is about 800 kilometres with the average journey cycle, including loading and dumping, taking approximately 40 hours.

Our network is the largest privately owned and operated heavy haul rail system in Australia, and as we focus on the future, our vision is to become the greatest heavy haul railway in the world.
