Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Rehabilitation & Closure team is currently recruiting for a Specialist Closure to support the business with all aspects of closure planning. Successful mine rehabilitation and closure is a complex, challenging and rewarding field of work and this role is a great opportunity to provide advice to the business to assess, manage and minimise risks as they relate to closure.
Reporting to Superintendent Closure Planning, key responsibilities for the position will be to:
- Develop asset closure plans to meet Rio Tinto and regulatory requirements
- Understand environmental and regulatory requirements with respect to closure planning
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience in the development of closure options through participation in mining expansion and closure studies
- Use your technical knowledge to inform risk management, stakeholder engagement and ensure closure aspects are considered in our mine planning, design and operation
- Identify opportunities to integrate closure planning into whole life of mine
- Be involved in business improvement projects.
This is a permanent position working Monday to Friday out of the Rio Tinto Central Park building offices in the Perth CBD. There will be flexibility to work from home on occasional days and ad hoc travel to site in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
What you’ll bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or related field
- Demonstrated experience in mine closure planning
- Project and/or contractor management experience
- Experience in mining, rehabilitation and/or environmental management
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent technical writing skills
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Basic Vulcan skills
- ArcGIS skills
- Operational experience
