About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Closure to join the team at Rio Tinto. In this role you will primarily support asset closure strategies that strengthen partnership and balance environmental, financial and social risks, whilst you embed closure planning principles at all stages of the asset life cycle.

As the Specialist Closure, you will report to the Principal Closure and responsibility over the following duties:

  • Support a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace for employees and contractors

  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement through mentoring, identifying, evaluating and implementing improvement opportunities

  • Collate and deliver effective communications to stakeholders

  • Support compliance to internal standards and relevant statutory and legislative provisions; timely reporting of performance against plans

  • Plan, manage and deliver work to a high standard, with some leader guidance and support

  • Integrate closure planning principles into studies, mine planning and operational decisions across allocated assets)

  • Support targeted stakeholder engagement on closure to inform studies, approvals and asset closure planning across allocated assets

  • Champion closure, foster collaboration and two-way sharing of information with key internal stakeholders

  • Provide closure guidance to peers and asset teams

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the R&C annual plan

  • Deliver closure planning requirements to support Part IV approvals, compliance, inter-studies and studies across allocated assets

  • Own and manage asset closure risk register/s across allocated assets

  • Support conformance with the RT Closure Standard at the asset level

  • Support delivery of Asset Closure Strategies (ACSs) and internal/external audits as required

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A C Class Manual driver’s license

  • Critical thinking and ability to synthesise information into clear narrative

  • Capacity to work independently, seeking guidance as required

  • Ability to engage and partner with internal stakeholders

  • A developing technical understanding and experience in closure planning

  • Experience in planning and project management

  • Experience in risk management

  • Studies and operational support

  • Tertiary or University level qualifications in relevant field

Where you’ll be working

You and your team will be Perth-based with opportunity to work flexibly from home combined with time in our Central Park offices. There will be the opportunity for some Pilbara site travel from time to time, however this will be done on an ad-hoc basis.
