Rio Tinto’s Operational Excellence team is looking to recruit a Specialist Contractor Management to join the Robe Valley Operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Key deliverables for this position are to drive governance and maturity of our contractor management capability and performance and to govern the safety, regulatory and commercial systems supporting contractor management.
Reporting to the Manager Operational Excellence, responsibilities will be to:
- Coach and upskill Contractor Management Representatives and Supervisors through in-field leadership
- Work closely with Procurement and Central Contractor Management to drive contractor management system and process maturity
- Identify opportunities to improve sourcing or contracting arrangements and maximise value
- Drive continuous improvement in contractor safety maturity and Safety Maturity Model contractor integration
- Monitor operational performance of key contracting partners and support effective partnerships through regular supplier performance reviews, walk the contracts, Operational Partnership Meetings, and Vendor Safety Resets
- Collaborate with Contractor Management network to share and adopt best practices
- Data analysis and reporting for contractor related metrics
- Demonstrate excellence in teamwork, partnership, communication, and stakeholder management.
This permanent position will be offered on either a residential to Pannawonica roster of 5 days on, 2 days off, or a fly in, fly roster of 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off from Perth, Western Australia.

In the Pilbara region of Western Australia, we own a world-class, integrated network of 17 mines, four independent port terminals, a rail network spanning nearly 2,000 kilometres and related infrastructure – all designed to respond rapidly to changes in demand. We are one of the world’s leading producers and exporters of iron ore.
Robe Valley Operations consists of two sites, Mesa A and Mesa J. Mesa J is located approximately 14 km southwest of the town of Pannawonica and Mesa A is located 50 km west of the Mesa J operation and adjacent to the Northwest Coastal Highway.
What you’ll bring
To be considered suitable for this position, applicants will have:
- Demonstrated experience in front line supervision
- Demonstrated contract management experience with a strong understanding of procurement, project management, change management and/or process improvement practices and principles
- Highly effective interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to influence favourable outcomes
- Effective analytical skills and sound commercial acumen
- Proficiency in the use of MS Excel and PowerPoint software
