About the Role

The purpose of this role is to contribute to the development of contract strategies and compliance to the new OR-Contractor Management and the culture BHP is driving.   

As the Specialist Contracts, you will play a vital role in Engineering within the Training and Business Standards team supporting site contracts across Nickel West and providing subject matter expertise to Contract Owners and Site Stakeholders. 

The responsibilities include:

  • Assists with the Management of contractor performance to maximise operational and financial performance and mitigate exposure and risk.
  • Provides coaching and guidance to contract stakeholders.
  • Manages contractor compliance with the BHP Charter, Code of Conduct, Group Level Documents, site and team procedures and met relevant statutory obligations.
  • Escalates contractual issues to key stakeholders and coordinate the resolution process.
  • Identifies and assess contract risks, makes risk informed decisions inline with BHP's risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes. 
  • Conduct verification activities with Contracting Partners and Contract Owners and provide coaching while building/maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external key stakeholders.
  • Provide contract reports and reporting capabilities to business functions and vendors to assist with monitoring & delivery of business information. 
  • Provides contract technical expertise and support for continuous improvement and coordinate change management.
  • Ensure effective governance of the Contract Owner Portfolio, ensuring a productive output and strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Monitor performance of work under contract at all levels in line with contracted Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Verification of all requirements under ‘Our Requirement for Contractor Management’ through regular audits.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated work experience with contract law or contract management.
  • Tertiary qualification in Procurement/Engineering/Business/Law or similar experience within the mineral resources industry preferred.
  • Exceptional engagement and collaboration skills in managing stakeholder relationships. 
  • Interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Work effectively both independently and in a team-based environment. 
  • Strong multi-tasking and organisational management skills.
  • Proficient in the MS Office Suite of products.
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment and sustainable development
