About the Role

Blackwater Mine is one of BMA’s (BHP Mitsubishi Alliance) largest Metallurgical Coal Mines, located in the Bowen Basin approximately 21kms from Blackwater township. Reporting to the Superintendent Contracts, the Specialist Contractor Management Governance role will be responsible for providing specialised compliance monitoring, coaching, advice and support for our site contracts team and Contractor Owners to promote improved safety outcomes and standardisation. You will utilise your excellent relationship building and people skills to deliver a wide range of services and initiatives.

This opportunity is a site based role at Blackwater Mine with flexible DIDO/FIFO options offered.

In this role you will be required to: 

  • Identify and lead initiatives to bridge any identified gaps, facilitate change and embed new systems to support the continuous improvement of our Contractor Management processes and procedures, as it aligns to the BMA Contractor Management Framework, BWM SHMS and legislative requirements.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on suitable course of action with regards to engagement and performance management of contract partners
  • Advise and coach internal stakeholders on the development of work scopes, risk assessments and Contractor Management documentation
  • Conduct audits and inspections in line with the Contractor Management Framework audit and inspection schedule
  • Identify continuous improvement initiatives to drive process, culture and productivity improvement.
  • Be motivated towards the growth of our culture of inclusivity by using our Employee Perception Survey results to drive improvement opportunities.
  • Develop, lead and participate in internal audits related to contractor management
  • Drive business for continuous improvement strategies
  • Develop strong working relationships and support site leaders to ensure in-field adherence to new and existing systems.
  • Contribute to supporting a continuous improvement culture that delivers results across safety, efficiency and culture improvement.
  • Develop documentation to a high standard and aligned with industry best practice, such as audit templates, guides and presentations.
  • Commitment to our field leadership program and coach field leadership activities

About You

You will be a self-motivated professional who has a proven history as an effective coach, strong communication and engagement skills and a solid record of achieving results through influence and mentoring.

It is preferable that you also have:

  • Tertiary qualification (or studying) in Safety, Risk or a related discipline desirable or with similar experience within the mineral resources industry
  • RIIPRM501E – Implement, monitor and rectify contracts and/or Diploma in Quality auditing, or equivalent experience, are desirable
  • Experience in relationship management with a demonstrated understanding of the Queensland Coal Mining Safety & Health Act and Regulations.
  • Previous experience in navigating Safety and Health Management Systems, with a strong working knowledge and application of Queensland Coal Mining Safety and Health legislation and regulatory bodies.
  • Effective interpersonal skills allowing you to collaborate and build positive relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence health and safety outcomes.
  • Work effectively both independently and in a team based environment; 
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational management skills; 
  • Demonstrated experience in risk management or training

  • Have a commitment to safety and genuine care for the workforce.
  • Strong action orientation and superior problem solving, decision making and influencing skills.
  • Previous supervisory experience is desirable; 
  • Proficient in the MS Office Suite of products, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project and SAP experience is preferred.
