About the Role
A Specialist in the Procurement Projects team, providing functional support to WAIO Site Engineering the successful delivery of their projects.
As a member of the WAIO Site Engineering Procurement Projects team you will be responsible for working collaboratively to plan, implement and manage the procurement of contracts according to the approved strategy with an overriding commitment to health, safety, social value, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
The Procurement Projects team requires a diligent professional to provide ongoing procurement support for existing and planned contract packages. A core focus of this role will be as an integrated member of the WAIO Site Engineering Projects team and providing support to other members of the team. As part of the role, you will be expected to foster collaborative relationships both internally and with external parties for the successful delivery of the WAIO Site Engineering Projects.
You will be required to travel to Company offices and sites from time to time as the project team requires.
Key Accountabilities
The primary responsibility of this role is to drive world class sourcing and administration of Contracts for the Procurement Projects team (with an emphasis on construction contracts) through:
- Development of execution strategies, undertake sourcing, execute new contracts and manage contract variations compliant with the BHP Charter, Code of Conduct, Group Level Documents (GLDs)
- Ensuring the appropriate allocation of risks through the selection of the most effective commercial pricing models
- Drafting of high-quality tender and contract documents to minimise ambiguity, thereby reducing opportunities for claims
- Influencing the selection of the various procurement strategies (e.g. fixed lump sum, cost reimbursable, Target Cost)
- Providing contract management (incl. administration) support to project teams throughout the contract life cycle
- Providing contractor and contract performance monitoring and reporting to support the Projects Category (KPI reporting, spend analytics, contract variations incl. claims management, and off-contract spend)
- Maintaining relationships with key stakeholders to become a highly valued contract expert, trusted with commercial support, to lead negotiations with vendors and provide on-going contract management up to and including close-out
- Ensuring consistency and high performance against projects and commercial Procurement KPIs
- Pursuing projects, operational and commercial excellence through continuous improvement
- Application of sound commercial judgement around application of contractual terms and conditions to ensure that contractors perform their obligations under the contract
- Understanding and implementing principles and methods of dispute avoidance and resolution.
- Supports direct tendering, negotiation and implementation of complex and high value contracts to reduce the total cost to the business as required
- Ensures local government and federal government legislation is understood and abided by
- Participates and support activities such that the Procurement team meets the Business Plan and meets Department and Global KPIs.
- Develops and implements advanced commercial techniques to leverage value creation opportunities

About You
You will have experience of procurement in construction projects and working with project teams, hold a tertiary qualification (Quantity Surveying/procurement, engineering, business, law is preferred) or similar with preferably experience within the mining and mineral resources industry. Alternatively, you might have experience on the contractor side (engineering/ technical/ consultancies or construction) with a demonstrated understanding of project delivery.

- Demonstrated experience with contract law and/or contract management.
- Collaborative mindset and advanced interpersonal skills.
- Highly capable in building constructive long-term relationships.

- Autonomous, detail oriented, organised, and objective.
- Advanced communication skills enabling the influencing of a diverse stakeholder group (frontline to executive).
- Ability to support Procurement Leaders to deliver upon department KPIs.
- Ability to support Project Teams to deliver project KPIs
- Autonomous, detail oriented, organized and objective
- Proficient in MS Office Suite of products, specifically Excel, Word & Power Point
- Minimum 8 years of experience in a similar role
