We are seeking a passionate and engaging Advisor – Finance & Accounting Services (FAS) to partner with the Rio Tinto Aluminium (Bauxite & Alumina) Business Unit.

Reporting to the Senior Advisor FAS you will work in collaboration with the Closing & Reporting teams and Finance Business Partners (FBP), where you will be responsible for the provision of timely and accurate financial statements and analysis in accordance with IFRS and Rio Tinto policies.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Controllership primary point of contact for Refinery operations.
  • Identify site-based accounting issues, make connections between financial information and business activities, investigate accounting issues including quantification of the impact and preparation of a summary of findings for review by the Senior Advisor and Manager.
  • Preparation of monthly reports and analysis, including but not limited to site submission reports, GM operations reports, Net Earnings Variance Analysis (NEVA) reports.
  • Review and analyse financial information for refinery operations including non-managed Joint Venture.
  • Preparation of inventory obsolescence provision review, capital spares review, inventory standard price review on a half-yearly basis.
  • Support with half-year and year-end group reporting deliverables, including but not limited to analytical reviews, disclosures submissions and management sign-off packs.
  • Review of Capital Expenditure Application’s (CEA) and supply contracts to determine accounting implications.
  • Assist with the annual statutory audit process, including review of general purpose statutory financial statements and assisting with the external audits.
  • Support the Controllership function to standardise and optimise its processes.
  • Assisting with ad-hoc requests.

What you’ll bring

  • To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Accounting certification (CA, CPA or equivalent) or in progress.
  • Knowledge and experience in refinery processes and tolling operations would be highly desirable.
  • Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) and working knowledge of SAP would be highly desirable.
  • Excellent team player, ability to multitask and committed to delivering on-time and quality work under time pressure.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; Proactive and the ability to work independently.
  • Continuous improvement mindset to simplify, standardise and automate processes and reporting.
  • Experience working with and influencing external auditors or Big 4 audit experience will be considered positively.
