The Rio Tinto Iron Ore Rail Engineering Team are, along with the Rail Maintenance and Operations teams, at the core in delivering our business objectives to reliably and safely deliver iron ore to 4 ports from 16 mining operations across 1,600km of captive rail network.

About the role

A new opportunity has been created for a Specialist Data Engineering to join the team, reporting into the Manager Asset Management Rail of Rail Engineering.

Key role to deliver the data analytical services that solve business problems, providing insights for the Rail Engineering and Maintenance teams to make improved decisions. In this role you will deliver the analytical work and support the existing rail data analytical models.

Your main focus’s will include but not limited to :

  • Designing, building, deploying and maintain data pipelines to serve analytics models (data sourcing and ingestion)
  • Define data architecture and catalogue management
  • Organise and wrangle large datasets to get actionable insights, using statistics and machine learning methods to develop complex algorithms
  • Developing platforms and processes that support self-service data analysis kiosks

About you

With a genuine interest in this type of work and ability to work well amongst various levels of the organisation, it will also be advantageous if you have :

  • Experience building and deploying data engineering pipelines into production, including using automation best practices for CI/CD
  • Hands-on expertise in Apache Spark
  • Azure technology stack deployment experience, with exposure to AWS and Foundry technology stacks will be advantageous
  • Demonstrated capability in business intelligence, algorithm development, model deployment and lifecycle management
