The Rio Tinto Iron Ore Rail Engineering & Strategy Team are, along with the Rail Maintenance and Operations teams, at the core in delivering our business objectives to reliably and safely deliver iron ore to 4 ports from 16 mining operations across 1,600km of captive rail network.

About the role

A new opportunity has been created for a Specialist Data Engineering to join our Rail Digital team, reporting into the Senior Advisor, Data Science.

This role is integral to helping the Rail Digital team deliver the reliable data and right tools that solve business problems and provide insights for the Rail Division to make improved decisions.

In this role you will use your data engineering knowledge to support and improve the existing rail data analytical models and data repositories. In addition, you will be vital to ensuring that new models, pipelines etc are set up in a sustainable, best-practice way.

Your main focus’s will include but not limited to:

• Development of end-to-end automated data pipelines in Azure & AWS cloud environments
• Advising on data architecture, data models, data migration, integration and pipelines, and data analysis and visualisation
• Implementing solutions for the establishment of data management capabilities including data models and structures, database and data storage infrastructure, master and metadata management, data quality, data integration, data warehousing, data transformation, data analysis, and data governance
• Developing platforms and processes that support self-service data analysis

• Experience with architecting, building and deploying data engineering pipelines into production.
• Proficient in a source code control system such as GIT/Azure DevOps
• Hands-on experience in writing production ready Python/PySpark
