About the role

We are looking for a Specialist Data Systems with experience in geoscience or systems administration with a passion for data to drive initiatives to improve data management systems and processes within Resource Development (RD) division of Rio Tinto Iron Ore.
You will possess a solid background in geoscience, with a strong interest in data, systems and technology. The systems currently managed within the Modelling & Data Systems team include custom mine geology software and grade control processes.
This role presents an exciting opportunity to utilise your experience to enhance the value of this critical data that we collect and manage.
Based in Perth with occasional site travel to the Pilbara, this role has the following key responsibilities:
- Use knowledge of RD division purpose and workflow to guide, and scope for new geological systems and modifications / refinement to existing systems
- Designing and deploying improved processes for data capture and management
- Build relationships and develop/maintain a communications framework across geoscience functions
- Maintain relationships and training with geoscience teams across RTIO through site visits to ensure system / practice alignment
- Assist design and execution of RD Data Management Strategy
- Develop close relationships with IST business partners and build support for RD’s digital transformation and modernisation
- Develop/use in depth understanding of geological planning, technical and field operations process, workflow, data usage and integration opportunities to support geoscience
- Interface with external system providers to maintain and enhance performance and user experience
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, evaluating and implementing improvement opportunities utilising a range of Rio Tinto best practices

About You
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- A strong background in data and systems with the ability to work proactively
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- A desire and enthusiasm to get involved, and to have a go, supported by a “can-do” attitude
- A thorough understanding of mine geology and resource development processes from planning, drilling, data collection, interpretation, modelling & mining.
- Experience in using or supporting Geoscientific Data Management systems
- Excellent engagement skills and able to build relationships and collaborate with multiple stakeholders across a variety of locations
- Prior experience in geoscience operations or fieldwork is highly desirable
- In addition, you will have a passion for business improvement, innovation and technical excellence.

Where you’ll be working
You and your team will be Perth based with opportunity to work flexibly from home combined with time in our Central Park offices. Our wider Geoscience team is spread across a combination of Perth and Pilbara Resource Development sites.
This role is open to both full time and part time applicants. Some visits to Pilbara sites will be required: however, these can be accommodated on a very flexible basis.
