Specifically, the Specialist Data & Visualisation, reporting to the Team Lead Data, Visualisation and Applications, is an end-to-end expert on data and visualisation technology at the Operation. The Specialist Data & Visualisation contributes to the Data & Visualisation Platform, including development, maintenance and support of the platform, data models, reports/dashboards, data integration services, and processes.

The Specialist Data & Visualisation provides advice and execution of activities in compliance to the South32 Technology Standard and associated policies and procedures for Worsley Alumina.

This role is offered on a permanent fulltime contract.

Refinery

This role will be based at our Worsley Alumina Refinery which is a short drive from Collie (15 minutes), Bunbury  and other nearby scenic communities.  

As there is no accommodation on site, you will be required to drive in, drive out on a daily basis. Employees ideally live within an hour’s drive of Collie.  

Accountabilities

Strategy and Planning

  • Contribute to the vision and strategy for the Data & Visualisation delivery model
  • Contribute to the development of the Data & Visualisation Platform Roadmap and improvement pipeline
  • Assist and contribute to the Data & Visualisation Platform plans including maintenance, improvement and sourcing
  • Identify and share the value drivers for the Data & Visualisation Platform across the organisation
  • Be adaptable to change of the business and Technology strategies through the Data & Visualisation practices and services

Platform Management

  • Assist with the establishment and governance of Data & Visualisation Platform practices and processes in collaboration with service management suppliers and the broader Platform Teams
  • Ensure effective and efficient delivery of Data & Visualisation services and solutions to the Operation and take responsibility for the support of all Data & Visualisation activities
  • Ensure interactions for both producers and consumers of data services are clearly articulated and adhered to
  • Adhere to the Technology processes and procedures specifically the people engagement, change and communication plans and strategies
  • Ensure service level requirements of the Data & Visualisation Platform are clearly articulated
  • Manage and monitor Data & Visualisation activities including incidents, requests and escalations
  • Be a key contact for Data & Visualisation activities and effectively manage relationships with the Operation teams
  • Ensure collaboration with multidisciplinary teams at the operation and Technology Functions
  • Drive and encourage peer engagement across the Technology Platform Teams as well as the operational teams

About you

  • Relevant data management / technology certifications
  • Degree in computer science, data science or engineering preferable
  • Proven knowledge of platform thinking
  • Technical skills and knowledge of data design and data integration
  • Technical skills and knowledge of data cyber security
  • Technical knowledge of operational data and its application to plant control
  • Design and implementation experience of large-scale data loading, processing, analysis and exploration
  • Experience with working alongside architects understanding architecture patterns, security assessments, access management for platforms
  • Sound knowledge of contract and vendor management processes and practices
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relevant current Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental legislation

The following specific technology experience is desired:

  • Experience in Microsoft SQL databases and data warehousing
    • Experience in SQL, DAX, .Net programming
    • Experience in SQL Server Reporting Services
    • Experience in Microsoft Power BI
