The Rio Tinto Iron Ore Disposals Management team is looking to recruit a Specialist, Disposals who will facilitate the removal of assets from our Pilbara mine sites. The Disposals Management team safely disposes of assets that the business no longer requires and maximises the returns received. 

This is an opportunity to join the off-site Repairs and Disposals team within the Maintenance Planning & Engineering (MP&E) Perth based team working out of our Central Park office in the Perth CBD.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Spares & Disposals and working in a collaborative community within Maintenance Planning & Engineering, responsibilities of the position include:

  • Ensuring governance is met with relation to the disposal of end-of-life assets and inventory and ensuring all disposals are recorded and reported accurately in line with Maintenance and Capital governance
  • Leading a small team including the Disposals Advisor
  • Managing financial transactions from sales of assets via a third-party provider
  • Undertaking analysis of current processes to identify improvements.

This position will suit applicants living in Perth, Western Australia or someone willing to relocate to Perth on a permanent basis if successful. Regular ad hoc travel to our Pilbara mine sites will be a requirement of the position. 

What you’ll bring

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Fixed Asset Registers, Capital Systems and related governance
  • Demonstrated experience in problem solving and implementing change
  • Strong financial skills in cash management and reporting
  • The ability to liaise and coordinate with different departments including communities, fixed plant, mobile equipment and warehouses
  • Proficient skills in Excel and SAP (maintenance and purchasing) and application ability to use of our in-house system reporting functions
  • Effective vendor management skills to ensure compliance with contractual KPI’s
  • Capability to maintain accurate and auditable record of items authorised for disposal and items disposed and transact sales of surplus and obsolete assets and inventory
  • Ability to provide accurate and relevant information to stakeholders about disposal activities in reports and provide an education service about Disposal processes and procedures.

Ideally, you will have previous experience in a similar position gained within a large scale, open pit mining environment.

Where you’ll be working

Perth based in Rio Tinto’s Central Park CBD office and with a working focus on supporting operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
