About the Role
In this role as the Electrical Compliance Specialist for the WAIO Infrastructure and Services (I&S) team, you will provide guidance and direction on Western Australian and BHP electrical standards to Electrical teams/team members within our Department. Our portfolio includes Villages, Airports, Community Infrastructure, Water and Power Utilities. You will also be the main point of contact between other Electrical Maintenance teams across WAIO, relevant Network Operators and the Offices of the Technical Regulators.
Reporting to the Superintendent HV & Power Operations, you will be responsible for but not limited to:
- Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care and respect by being a visible safety leader with a strong focus on engaging, developing and coaching our teams towards successful outcomes
- Manage Material Risk as the Control Owner of Critical Controls pertaining to Electrical Compliance
- Share electrical technical/legislative knowledge to our I&S Electrical teams throughout the Pilbara by conducting regular site visits
- Identify Electrical Safety Topics, prepare and deliver presentations and training material to our Electrical team members
- Facilitate regular reviews with all I&S Electrical teams responsible for performing work across the I&S portfolio, identifying opportunities and delivering continuous improvement and standardisation across our portfolio
- Maintain and manage our I&S In-house Electrical Licences
- Perform regular reviews on Electrical Log Books and electronic Certificates of Compliance to ensure conformance for both BHP and the regulatory authorities including Energy Safety and DMIRS
- As required, provide support to the Electrical Trainer to ensure team members are trained and competent
Due to the need to be able to regularly travel to all of the various I&S sites across the Pilbara, the role is offered as a FIFO position on a 5/2 – 4/3 roster. Flexible rosters considered
About You
- Western Australian Unrestricted Electrical Workers licence or Electrical Engineer with power qualifications (essential)
- Western Australian Electrical Inspectors Designation (highly desirable)
- Passionate about coaching electrical safety and compliance. Ability to engage with all levels of the business from frontline employees to higher-level management through good verbal, written and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously
- Knowledge of WHS and Electricity Acts and Regulations
- Comprehensive knowledge of AS/NZS3000 Electrical Wiring Rules
- Experience in mining, commercial, village and domestic electrical installations
- Ability to make decisions relating to your work, or escalate if needed
- Adaptable and responsive to change, as well as learning new information
