About the role

We are currently looking for a Specialist Electrical Engineer to join our Dampier Salt Limited (DSL) Engineering and Reliability team. As an integral member of the team, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and governance to site, project, and central teams to ensure safe sustained operation and maintenance of electrical assets.

This role is a great opportunity to improve the productivity and availability of assets throughout Dampier Salt Operations and ensure the safety of personnel is preserved and production risks minimised. You will support and develop a diverse range of systems, with significant opportunities for furthering your knowledge in a supportive environment.  You will apply your specialised problem-solving skills and engineering expertise to ensure the safe and cost-effective performance of DSL assets.

As part of the wider Rio Tinto Iron Ore operations, Dampier Salt has three operations located at Dampier, Port Hedland and Lake MacLeod and is headquartered in Perth, Western Australia. Through a sustainable process of solar evaporation of sea water, we reliably deliver high quality salt essential for making thousands of products used in everyday life. At our Lake MacLeod operations, we also mine and export gypsum to customers in Australia and Southeast Asia. DSL is the world’s largest exporter of seaborne salt, with capacity to produce approximately 10.3 million tonnes every year.

Reporting to the Superintendent of Engineering and Reliability, you will:

  • Provide direct support to operations by performing troubleshooting to efficiently resolve faults and identify root causes on electrical assets.
  • Support the company Electrical Standards (C2) committee.
  • Review, maintain and create Company electrical specifications and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and drive changes through management of change process.
  • Assist site to implement electrical maintenance projects.
  • Identify and implement minor capital projects to upgrade and sustain the function of electrical systems, assets and supporting infrastructure.
  • Develop scope of work documents for consultant engagement.
  • Define electrical technical requirements for new assets.
  • Review new asset operational readiness tactics, maintenance plans and inventory requirements for electrical components/assets.
  • Provide technical expertise to the Project Delivery team throughout major project cycles.
  • Provide mentoring and leadership to more junior engineers.

What you’ll bring:To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in an Electrical Engineering discipline
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience working in the field of Electrical Engineering
  • C Class driver’s licence.
  • Extensive experience with processing plants, material handling, shiploaders and stackers.
  • Experience with High Voltage networks and associated equipment.
  • Experience with electrical drawings and drawing management.
  • Excellent communication skills and effective stakeholder management.
  • A proactive approach with a commitment in driving a safe and inclusive team culture.

Experience in the following is highly regarded:

  • Functional knowledge of SAP.
  • AS61508 and the management and maintenance of functional safety systems.
  • Selection and configuration of instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of work management processes.

Where you will be working

This position will be based in Perth at our Central Park office, working Monday to Friday. This role will include some adhoc site travel to our three Dampier Salt Operations, but with the flexibility to work around your own personal & family priorities.
