About the role

We are seeking an Specialist Electrical Technical (Process Control Technical Officer) in Port Maintenance at Nelson Point on a residential 8/8 (4 days, 4 nights, 8 off) shift roster. Reporting to the South Yard Electrical Coordinator at Nelson Point, you will be responsible for assisting the shift maintenance team maintain a safe, reliable, and operational plant.

You will provide remote and in-field assistance/fault diagnosis support with electrical related breakdowns.  Your area of responsibility covers all operational plant/equipment and control systems across Nelson Point, with support if required at Finucane Island.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Work together with Shift Supervisors to restore plant operations quickly and safely following breakdowns.
  • Operate primarily in the reactive space, ensuring urgent faults are addressed without requiring shift teams to call for support.
  • Proactively identify issues in the plant and act on them to prevent further delays.
  • Support with proactive improvement projects to enhance reliability and performance.
  • Take ownership of actions identified during daily delay meetings and ensure timely execution.
  • Collaborate with the shift team to build fault-finding capability and drive quality execution.
  • Assist the shift team in rectifying urgent, immediate faults to minimize downtime.
  • Support shutdown outages during ramp-up and commissioning phases, ensuring adherence to standards.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical support within the team to build capability.
  • Review any delay greater than 15 minutes or occurring more than three times in a 24-hour period and implement corrective actions.
  • Support Line Senior Technicians and maintenance execution teams (8/6, 24/7) with SME-level technical assistance for faults, future works, and scope of work across yard assets.
  • Analyse delays to identify recurring issues, raise notifications, and initiate immediate interventions where necessary.
  • Perform technical fault-finding and diagnosis of ongoing issues, initiating code changes when required.
  • Conduct daily online equipment reviews to confirm operational status and escalate issues to the electrical coordinator as needed.

About you

  • Proven commitment to look after your own wellbeing and the confidence to speak up when others put themselves in harm’s way.
  • Advanced technical knowledge and training in the use of PLCs (AB & GE), VVVFs (Siemens), networks, instrumentation, HV/LV motors and Citect systems (or similar, relevant systems)
  • Configuration, monitoring and tuning of VVVF’s, electrical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Assisting in PLC and control systems hardware configuration and replacement
  • Experience in project scoping and reviews for future improvement works
  • Experience with onsite fixed plant maintenance on electrical equipment
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in the mining or heavy industry sectors is essential.
  • Experienced in 1SAP/Fiori work management

Qualifications Required:

  • Electrical Trade Certificate (WA Electrical Licence) and/ or electrical tertiary related discipline
  • Current, minimum C class valid driver’s licence
  • Current Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC)
