About the role
We are seeking expressions of interest for the role of Specialist Electrical & Control Systems Technician within Port Maintenance at Nelson Point.
Reporting to the South Yard Electrical Coordinator, this role provides advanced electrical, automation and control systems support to shift maintenance teams across Nelson Point, with support provided to Finucane Island when required.
This is a predominantly reactive role focused on rapid fault diagnosis, breakdown recovery and technical support for operational plant and equipment. Acting as the primary escalation point for complex electrical and control system issues, you will work closely with operations and maintenance teams to minimise downtime, improve plant reliability and support safe, efficient production outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote and consistently demonstrate our Charter Values of Do, Seek and Make, while supporting our vision of One Port, One Team.
- Follow all safety standards, procedures and controls to ensure work is completed safely and effectively.
- Provide advanced technical support for electrical, instrumentation, automation and control system breakdowns across operational plant and equipment.
- Work closely with Shift Supervisors and maintenance teams to safely restore plant operations following equipment failures.
- Act as the technical escalation point for complex faults involving PLCs, drives, networks, instrumentation and electrical equipment.
- Assist maintenance teams with complex fault-finding activities while providing coaching and mentoring to build technical capability.
- Support control system hardware replacement, configuration and commissioning activities where required.
- Raise notifications and support reliability improvement initiatives to eliminate recurring equipment issues.
- Conduct routine reviews of equipment performance and operational delays, escalating risks and reliability concerns as required
About you
- Demonstrated commitment to personal safety, team wellbeing and safe work practices.
- Advanced fault-finding and diagnostic capability across fixed plant electrical and control systems.
- Strong technical knowledge and experience with:
- Allen Bradley and GE PLC systems
- Siemens VVVF/VSD drives
- Citect SCADA systems or equivalent platforms
- Industrial communications and control networks
- Instrumentation and process control equipment
- Experience configuring, monitoring and troubleshooting drives, instrumentation and electrical equipment.
- Experience supporting PLC and control system hardware replacement and configuration.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and root cause investigation skills.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and teamwork skills.
- Experience within mining, ports, bulk materials handling or heavy industrial environments would be advantageous.
Qualifications
- WA Electrical Licence or Tertiary qualifications in Electrical, Automation, Instrumentation or Control Systems disciplines.
- Current unrestricted C Class Driver's Licence.
