About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the BHP Employee Relations team, based in Brisbane. Working in a small team and reporting to the Manager Employee Relations, this role is responsible for championing the system management of ER grievance cases, the provision of initial advice to BHP leaders on grievance / investigation management and process, and liaising with multiple stakeholders to ensure all grievances / investigations are appropriately managed and closed out.  

  As a Specialist Employee Relations, you will be responsible for:

  • The system management of all grievances / complaints raised within BHPs case management systems;
  • Providing pragmatic initial advice and direction to leaders on how to investigate and manage grievances;
  • Engaging and working closely with the team of ER Business Partners, to ensure matters are accurately captured within our systems and closed out in a timely manner;
  • Acting as the champion for all system related queries, data integrity and audit requirements;
  • From time to time assisting the broader ER team with the management of employee relations matters, including workplace investigations, disciplinary processes, disputation, performance management, managing ill and injured employees;
  • Ensure appropriate escalation of matters as required, and working closely with BHPS Ethics & Investigations team;
  • Consistently seek out opportunities to continuously improve the system, processes and experiences for our ER team, leaders and other stakeholders.

About You

  • You are a passionate and driven HR/ER professional who has experience supporting the system management of ER issues. You may also be a recent HR / ER graduate looking to build on your HR / ER experience; 
  • By nature, you are proactive and strategic in your thinking and take a risk-based approach to your work.
  • You enjoy working in a fast-paced and high volume environment; you are agile and flexible in your approach whilst being able to deliver on multiple priorities.
  • Your communication, facilitation and influencing skills will be key strengths and you are able to build trusting relationships at all organisational levels.
  • You will be working in a collaborative and supportive ER team, spending at least 30-50% time in the office, with occasional site travel required.
  • You can demonstrate resilience, but are also not afraid to speak up and ask for help.
